On Friday, we went to the former home of Frederic Edwin Church, known as Olana. It is a really fabulous house. Church was famous for his realistic landscape paintings. Unlike most artists, Church actually made money while alive, and in fact paid for his mansion with the profit off his art. He was from a fairly rich family and I’m sure that helped out. His Dad wanted him to go into the family business, but that was quickly overshadowed when he saw how beautiful his artwork was. Unfortunately, there are no photos allowed inside the house, so all of the pictures are from the ground or on the porch of the house.
