After West Point, we visited Ft. Montgomery, a Revolutionary War fort. It was overran by the British in 1777. I don’t think I’d want to be either an American or British war soldier. Not a good life. However, I found it funny that while the enlisted men were bunked like cattle, the officers actually brought their servants to the fort to take care of them. While most enlisted soldiers came from poor families, the relics left behind here implied that these soldiers were better off than most. Not rich, but able to at least feed themselves well and to keep themselves clothed.
